Here are the rides that we have scheduled for August / September 2010:

(For details of the grading scheme, go here)

Location : Mt Victoria, Wellington

Date : Wednesday, 4th August 2010 6:30 pm

Ride type: Wednesday

Park on Oriental Parade by the Fisherman’s Table

A chance for a bit of urban riding around Mt Victoria and check out the tracks used for Wild Wellington

Location : Eastern Hutt Hills, Stokes Valley

Date : Wednesday, 11th August 2010 6:30 pm

Ride type: Wednesday

Meet at Silverstream outside Charltons Bar (make sure you lock things up). From Wellington turn off SH2 at Silverstream Bridge, turn right into Field Street at the second roundabout, then left into Kiln Street - Chaltons is on your right .

From Silverstream up through the old Hospital to Kingsley Street, Stokes Valley then on up the fire breaks to near Avro Road and down to the back of Foodstuffs or something similar

Location : Tangata Maunga, Otaki

Date : Sunday, 15th August 2009 9:00 am

Ride type: 4 Duration: 4 hours

Note: it takes at least an hour to get out to the start of this ride at Otaki from Wellington. Meet at the quarry in the back of Otaki. Travel across the roundabout heading north through Otaki. After the Railway overbridge take the second turn on the right into Waitohu Valley Rd. About 2km down the road veers left into Valley Road. Continue another 0.5 -1 km along Valley road and park outside the quarry entrance on the right.

This time instead of heading along the road as we would for Mt Thompson, we'll head in through the quarry gates towards the base of Mt Thompson, hang a right and start climbing Tangata Maunga. This is a 4WD climb that passes some great view points which offer a rest from the endless climbing. Once we’ve gone as far as you can go by bike, at 784m we can then head on by foot out onto the top at 912m for great views while munching a sandwich. We then return the same way for a serious downhill blast that takes considerably less time than the climb!

Ride Leader: Steve Meeres

Location : Western Hills, Belmont

Date : Wednesday, 18th August 2010 6:30 pm

Ride type: Wednesday

Meet at 126 Park Road, Belmont. Park Road is a left turn off SH2 just past Melling when heading North .

We'll head into Belmont - probably the last chance before areas are closed for lambing. Kilminster Track, the Airfield, Bridle Track, Danzig and Sweetacres Walkway are all options.

Location : Urban Assault, Wellington City

Date : Wednesday, 25th August 2010 6:30 pm

Ride type: Urban

Meet at Kate Sheppard Place - The short street opposite Parliament between Molesworth and Mulgrave Streets by the Back Bencher Pub

If the weather's good we can head over Tinakori Hill and towards Ngaio Gorge. Otherwise a few streets, a few alleyways, some steps and anything else we can find and try not to get evicted from Parliament, then possibly on to some other urban locations.

Note: This ride replaces the Battle Hill ride as Battle Hill is closed for lambing

Location : Pylon Track, Rimutaka Incline

Date : Sunday 29th August 2010 9:00 am

Ride type: 3 – 5 Duration: who knows?

Meet at the car park for the Rimutaka Incline. Head north on SH2 past Upper Hutt and continue up the hill. After a few km the Rimutaka Incline is signposted to your right.

You'll need a sense of adventure for this one! The intention is to head over to the Rimutaka Pylon track and then try to get back across to the Rimutaka Incline without losing too much height. The fallback is a drop down to Featherston then back up through Cross Creek - so be prepared for a long day (or bail at the Pylon) .

Ride Leader: Gordon McDonald

Location : Eastern Hills, Wainuiomata

Date : Wednesday, 1st September 2010 6:30 pm

Ride type: Wednesday

Meet: Parkway, Wainuiomata - Drive over the Wainuiomata Hill, turn left at the first roundabout and park in the first available space

The ride usually encompasses a climb to the pylon on the ridge on the new MTB tracks. These days there are plenty of options for a singletrack descent - . We'll see how those new tracks are coming along!

Location : Polehill Reserve, Aro Valley

Date : Wednesday, 8th September 2010 6:30 pm

Ride type: Wednesday

Meet where Polehill Reserve comes down to Aro Street. The best bet for parking is in Holloway Rd

We’ll head up the new shared tracks to Brooklyn and the Wind Turbine, then the Fence Line and Car Parts before descending back to Aro Valley.

Location : Makara Beach

Date : Sunday 12th September 2010 9:00 am

Ride type: 3 – 5 Duration: who knows?

Meet at the car park at Makara Beach. Go through Karori and head down the hill to Makara Beach on Makara Rd

There's rumour of new MTB tracks in this area so HVMBC are checking them out. We'll climb to the start of the Wind Farm, then descend on the zig-zag track to Opau Bay. Again, you'll need a sense of adventure for this one!
